Dermalogica Phyto Replenish Oil – This has to be one of the lightest oils I think i’ve tried, feather light and absorbs quickly, so much so I can actually use this morning and or night. I forget how much I love Dermalogica, it’s a brand I’ve used for years and I always go back to, like a trusty friend. When I first started out as a makeup artist, Dermalogica was a brand I used heavily in my pro kit, as it worked so well on so many people. With the market continually bringing out products left right and centre, sometimes the classics get a little forgotten, but whenever I go back to this, I am reminded why its is a brand loved by so many. This is a treatment oil designed to reinforce the skin’s protective barrier. This locks in moisture and smoothes out the skin without leaving it oily or greasy. I love this under makeup too. If you layer this under foundation, just a few drops, it also adds luminosity to your makeup base, without breaking down foundation in any way.
Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil – This is my second bottle, and it’s another one I always go back to and did I mention it comes out blue? (Don’t worry it turns clear as you blend it into the skin) This one does it all, targets fine lines, helps reduce redness, improves dryness and roughness, helps with pores, and evens out the complexion. This is one I notice results with pretty quickly. I wake up the next morning with soft as a baby skin that’s luminous. This is an oil best used at night, this is a retinol oil that boosts the look and feel of the skins plumpness. This feels very luxurious and if my skin has been especially problematic or misbehaving, this is usually my go to.
Moonlit Skincare Midnight Shift Overnight Facial Oil – One of my more recent discoveries, thanks to Indie Beauty Expo this year. This is a nice affordable option that hydrates the skin. The consistency is quite runny so a little goes a long way and I find this goes as far as my neck and shoulders in addition to my face. It smooths the skin and is perfect for anyone using acid exfoliants as it feels really soothing post acid use. I like to use this one at night, and wake up with glowing plump skin in the morning.
Kate Somerville Dilo Oil Restorative Treatment – After a recent facial at Kate Somerville’s Spa in Melrose Place, I was able to target my skin’s biggest issue, hydration. If it’s hydration you’re looking for, this is the perfect oil. I like to use a couple of drops in my hands and then I press it onto my skin to moisturise and strengthen my skin. This is also fast absorbing so fine to use morning and night, I like this in conjunction with an intensely hydrating moisturiser to really quench my skin to optimal hydration. This oil helps improve the skins elasticity and firmness while evening out the skin tone. This really is healthy looking skin in a bottle. I’ve yet to try a Kate Somerville product I haven’t liked, and for anyone wondering, the facial I was very kindly gifted was the Dermal Quench Oxygen Treatment, which I would hands down recommend and is one of their most popular facials for red carpet clients.
Elemis Superfood Facial Oil – This hydrates, smoothes and nourishes. This oil comprises of a highly concentrated blend of plant based superfoods that feed the skin with anti oxidants and omegas to radiate healthy glowing skin. I tend to use this on myself at night time, however I have used this before in my pro kit on clients with super dry skin just before foundation, or on any areas of dryness that need a little TLC to prevent the makeup catching. This feels rich and emollient without being greasy or too heavy on the skin.
I love a good face oil and now I’m in my 30’s I try my best to include an oil most nights. I find that oils are a key component in my quest for hydrated skin, and skin that glows. I’m always up for trying new ones, but so far these 5 really make the grade. Let me know your favourite facial oils in the comments below.
