I was kindly sent these Artis Brushes a while back, and before I recommend brushes I like to really put them through their paces. It’s also fair to say that the Artis Brush is completely new to me, and up until a few months back I had never tried them before. Its fair to say I was skeptical about these and quite a few people had asked for my thoughts on them so I decided its time to share my two cents.
The first thing I noticed is the weight of these brushes, something I really love about them as they feel sturdy in your hand and the weight makes things feel well balanced. This gives you full control with regards to the pressure you can apply, meaning firmer pressure resulting in a sheerer coverage or you skim the brush gently over the skin to keep the coverage. These brushes are designed to not life off of the skin, so rather than a buffing motion where you lift the brush and pat or buff, you stay in contact with the skin throughout the makeup application.
It’s strange to get use to at first but I did love the results, especially with my base application. It created a kind of airbrushed appearance, very polished and smooth. I found with the eyes however it just wasn’t for me, but I’ve ended up using the eye brushes for spot coverage and for that they are excellent, especially the small circular brush that almost looks like an electric toothbrush. Team that with Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage and you have a dream concealer spot covering duo that is beyond impressive.
So my take away is that if you’re looking to invest in your base (because these ain’t cheap) and you are on the lookout for a new luxury face brush, then I’m happy to recommend them. Are they an essential? No but then what brush is? If you want your skin to look perfected and airbrushed then these are a wonderful base tool, I just couldn’t get on with it for applying eyeshadow and found it took me longer, and didn’t create as nice a finish as my regular eye blending brushes (more on my fave eye blending brushes here). The Artis Brushes are beautiful, beautifully made, and beautiful to look at, and they made my base look epic and I think I’ll be reaching for base brushes more than I will the eyes.
