‘If I can offer you one piece of advice, sunscreen would be it’ Ah love a bit of Baz Lurman, and to be fair he has a point! I think now more than ever we’re a lot more aware of the sun’s harmful rays, and while I love me some vitamin D, I also want to protect my skin. While I don’t really do new years resolutions, I’m the first to admit I need to up my SPF game. I’m very good at protecting my face, but I do forget to put it on my body, so I’m going to commit to making more effort on that.
Since moving to Lala land, I’ve worked my way through a fair few SPFs for the face, the good the bad and the ugly if you like, so I thought i’d share the ones that make the grade. One question I get asked a lot is ‘at what point in my skincare routine should I apply my SPF’ and for me personally, I like to apply it after my regular moisturiser, before my makeup. A great SPF should protect against both UVA and UVB rays.
Dr Murad City Skin is in a nice neat bottle, that’s easy enough to put in my handbag for touch ups throughout the day. This one is SFF 50 and has a peachy tone when you first take it out of the bottle. This does require a tiny bit of work to smooth it over the skin, but totally worth it. This creates a lovely base for makeup, especially if you’re not fussed about primers. I wore this a lot on a recent trip to Tulum, in Mexico and I can happily report I had zero sunburn, yes I did reapply regularly but compared to my shoulders which always catch, my face was all good!
Kiehls Activated Sun Protector Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 is great for those of you who like a very thin consistency, and while it does come out white in colour, this doesn’t leave any residue, it blends in beautifully and I actually find this one very moisturizing without being greasy. Also lovely with makeup on top.
Nuxe Sun Delicious Cream High Protection For Face SPF 30 Ive loved Nuxe sun care products for a long time, and they all carry that beautiful Nuxe aroma, so make you smell divine at the same time as protecting your skin. This has a texture that’s just like putting a regular moisturiser on, nourishing and smoothing, and this has been a go to of mine for years.
Dr Murad also has a day cream I like to use especially when my skin is dryer than normal and this has spf 30 so its a little thinner in texture but still beautiful under makeup and very moisturizing. I also like this once i’ve been in the sun a while and my skin is feeling a little dehhydrated as it gives a really nice glow to the skin without any sheen, it just plumps the skin really nicely.
For those of you that perhaps live in a country with less sun than LA, but still want some spf protection I really recommend Ark Skincare’s Skin protector Anti Aging SPF 30 Primer, a lovely hydrating primer that’s all you need under makeup when you’re not in the sun, or if its winter where you live.
And that’s it, i’m Sure i’ll end up trying more. Let mew know in the comments below your favorites.
