I love purples and plums, and yet I don’t wear them as often as I should. When it comes to fall makeup looks, (or anytime of the year quite frankly) you can’t beat a good purple toned shadow. Purple shadows however are notoriously hard to create as many can look beautiful in the pan but apply unevenly or patchy. Bobbi Brown’s Ultra Violet Eye Shadow Palette was the one I reached for to create this makeup look. The palette comes with 8 shadows, with a mix of matte, metallics, sparkles and chrome finishes.
I started by applying a wash of ‘High Fidelity’ all over the lid, then I took the shade ‘Twisted Violet’ and applied that along my top and bottom lash line, blending it into the first shadow. Then I took ‘Strange Magic’ a beautiful chrome effect shade and placed this in the centre of my lid with my finger and also a little to the inner corners of my eye. To finish I applied ‘Black Charcoal’ and used this with a winged brush to create a soft liner along my top lash line and using whats left on the brush, I printed a little of the liner onto the outer third of my lower lash line.
I finished the look with lashings of mascara, and kept the lips and cheeks nude. I really enjoyed playing with this palette and I appreciate the range of textures. The chrome shade was beautiful and really pulled the look together. The pan sizes were nice and large, the shadows blended into each other with ease and the colours were very buildable, so you could easily use as a wash of colour or build up to more of a statement look. I only had a little fall out with the shimmery violet shade, but nothing extreme, so if in doubt do your eyes first. All in all, this is a really beautiful palette and for $39, I think its pretty reasonably priced given the range of textures, shade selection and the quality of the shadows. They blended beautifully and I actually think you could create quite a few different looks with this palette. Let me know if you’ll picking up this gem of a palette.
