I’ve had quite a few requests for me to share my current skincare routine. Because of the job I have its fair to say I am often rotating in and out new skincare items, but I do have my favourites and certain products that I repeat purchase and can’t live without. My current skincare routine is a mix of the two, some old faithfuls and a few new things I’ve been enjoying lately.
The first thing I start with is some kind of daily cleanser that I like to massage into the skin and then remove with a muslin cloth. Currently I have three on rotation, two old faithfuls and one newer discovery. The two old faithfuls include Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser (currently on my third bottle) which I like as a gentle, easy going face wash. The other is Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, perfect when my skin’s looking dull and tired. The third which is a newer discovery is by Boscia, is their Black Charcoal Detoxifying Cleanser. It comes out black and it warms up as you lather it onto your face which gives a very soothing feel. This is great when I’ve been in the city and want to remove build up on my skin.
Next step for me is a toner of some sort, whether thats a mist or something with a gentle exfoliating formula. For daily use I really like Dermalogica’s Multi-Active Toner which has a fizzy feeling on contact with the skin which feels really refreshing (also great for lazy days), and then a couple of times a week I use Bjork and Berries Refining Exfoliating Toner which I apply to Muji Cotton and hold over my pores to tighten and exfoliate the dead skin. I like to use a mix of brands, Dermalogica is one that will always have a special place in my heart because it was my first ever experience with ‘proper skincare’ but I also love to find more niche brands that are less well known.
Serums are probably my favourite skincare product because its where I see the most results. I’m happy to put my money into actives and products that address my specific skincare needs. I mix them up depending on what my skin needs on that day. Today I wanted brightening and to reveal fresh glowing skin and for that I always go back to Sunday Riley Good Genes. It contains Lactic acid which nobles up the dead skin sitting on the surface to reveal brighter skin. I love it, whenever I go back to it after not using it for a while, i’m always wowed by my skin the next morning. I also love Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum (full review here) and use that on the reg as well.
I love moisturisers but am more than happy to save here and find Glossier’s Priming Moisturiser Rich a great day and night time moisturiser and it’s affordable. If you like Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream this is very similar but a lot cheaper in price. If it’s the morning I’ll either use a moisturiser with SPF in or I’ll add a separate spf on top like Doc Block Daily Facial Sunscreen SPF55. If my skin is feeling paeticlaurly dry or dehydrated I do like to add in a night oil but I find my Vintner’s Daughter usually doubles up as that anyway. (More on my favourite face oils here)
My second favourite skincare product would have to be masks. Similar to my serums I have a few on rotation depending on my skin’s needs, I’m a huge fan of Enzyme masks like Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask and Malin + Goetz Brightening Enzyme Mask. My goal is always for my skin to look bright and glowing so enzyme masks are great for this. When I’m feeling lazy I do love a leave on mask and these are what I use most because they’re so easy, fuss free and give great results, especially if hydration is what you’re after. I love Sisley Paris Black Rose Cream Mask but it is pricey so another mask I’ve fallen hard for is Image Skincare Vital C Hydrating Overnight Mask, which has similar results to the Sisley one but is a lot cheaper and its more of a thick gel formula than a cream. Both of these are also great for travel as no one would know you were wearing a mask.
Body care is where there is serious room for improvement. I’m not great at remembering past my neck, I know I should know better, but recently I’ve been trying. I have to have something ready to go the moment I get out of the shower otherwise I will forget. I love Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse, it smells divine and because its a dry oil it doesn’t feel greasy. It makes limbs look divine, super silky and well hydrated. So there you have it, thats where I’m at with my skincare at the moment. Like I said I’m often trying new things but there are just some products I always come back to.
