I so wish I could tell you these nails I’m sporting were my own work, but alas that’s not the case. This work of art was created at Gloss in Silver Lake as a post podcast treat on a recent trip with the lovely miss Kelk. I’m really into minimal nail art at the moment and have found myself searching Pinterest and Instagram for more inspiration for my next trip.
I definitely think I’m going to experiment more with my nails, as I always stick to my comfort zone of rouge noir or red and this time I wanted to try something different, but still go for a design that goes with anything I wear, and that still feels like me. I appreciate this design isn’t particularly new, but I can’t believe how much I’ve fallen for its simplicity. Every time I look down at my hands I feel special, staring in sheer appreciation for the precision of those tiny golden dots. It’s the little things.
With my search for my next minimal nail design in full swing I thought i’d share some accounts I’m loving and definitely worth checking out if you too are a fan of nail art. If you’re looking for tips on the DIY manicure, then have a read of this post where I caught up with Angelina Jolie’s nail artist for her tips and tricks.
First up is a friend of mine who I work with regularly who’s talent is out of this world. Chelsea King (aka @chelseaqueen) does every kind of nail art imaginable and her work can be seen everywhere, from celebrities, to editorials to beauty campaigns. The level of detail she can create is mind blowing and I’m beyond lucky that I get to watch her in action.
Marian Newman’s (@mariannewman) work is all over the catwalks, with shows including Emilio Pucci, Gareth Pugh and Mary Katrantzou her work is always fashion forward and ahead of the game. As well as her more artistic work, I love the way she can make nails look clean and effortless but still with a little edge.
Sophie Harris Greenslade (@theillustratednail) has some amazing designs, especially where colour and pattern is concerned. Expect everything from finite detail, pastels, bold colours and everything in between. Check out the recent monochromatic design she did for Fearne Cotton, that may be my next go to design to try.
I’m really into the ‘scalloped’ nail design and really recommend checking out LA based nail artist Hang Nguyen aka (@thehangedit). I absolutely love what she’s doing design wise, and her use of colours. Definitely check out her Balmain inspired neon nail art. She takes colour and makes it wearable, hints of colour with clever design, and my current go to for interesting minimalist inspired nail art.
When it comes to nail salons, my favourite ones to follow on Instagram for awesome nail art include Dry By in London (@drybylondon), Olive And June (@oliveandjune) Based in Los Angeles, Wah Nails (@wahnails) and Paintbox in New York @paintboxnails).
I hope that’s given you some serious inspo for your next mani, and if like me you’ve become obsessed with making nail boards on pinterest, don’t forget to check out my nail board. Enjoy the endless hours of scrolling for your next design!
