If there’s one thing I never tire of living in LA it would have to be the sunshine. I bloody love it. It still surprises me the effect it has on my overall mood waking up to sunshine everyday. The most beautiful thing about the light in LA is how it changes throughout the day, and golden hour is when the magic really happens. I’ve been playing with some new to me favourites in my Pro kit, most of which I used to create the looks for this editorial shoot and I wanted to share the pieces that make me want to play this summer.
For this shoot I was reunited with one of my favourite faces to paint Bar Maldonado she has the most playful personality, quite literally a ray of sunshine, and she’s the perfect example of how to wear makeup rather than makeup wearing you. She really embraced the colour palette and the playful mood. I thought about summers gone by playing out in the fields as a child, jumping on hay bails and the colours of my toys from the ninitess like my little ponies and trolls to inspire the colour palette. For the initial looks I worked with cream eyeshadows in soft violet and lilac tones using RMS Eye Polish in Imagine and Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in New Moon to offset the lilac.
I also knew I wanted to play with pink, I’m still obsessed with all things pink on the eyes, and these new Diorshow On Stage Liquid Eyeliner Pens from Dior are INCREDIBLE! Safe to say they’re one o my favourite launches from Dior for a while (for a cheaper option try NYX Vivid brights Eyeliners). Available in a really nice selection of brightly coloured hues, these are the perfect way to add a hint of colour to your makeup. My two favourite colours are ‘Rusty’ the beautiful Burgundy red shade I used here, and the ‘matte pink’ the perfect hubby bubba bubblegum pink I later added ontop for a double liner effect. (For more tips on adding colour read this.)
Carrying on with the my little pony inspired colour scheme, I continued to layer more liner colours and play with the placement, later adding another liner in the ‘matte blue’ shade, and created a line that went around the whole eye including the lower lash line. I love the double denim feel of this look with the blue liner, kind of like a more is more kind of vibe.
The other colour I really enjoyed playing with for this shoot was silver. For the inner corners of the eyes throughout this shoot I used Dior 5 Couleurs in 067 Prevoke, a deeply richly pigmented palette and the silver is the most incredible foil metallic. I’m also really enjoying MAC’s pigments and Mac’s Pigment in Silver when mixed with water is a spectacular gun metal finish and a beautiful addition to any colourful look, especially to add some dimension to the inner corners of the eye.
I kept the skin pretty nude throughout just using Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint and Glossier Generation G in Cake on the lips (more on Glossier here). The focus was the eyes for this shoot and it was really fun to play with some colour.
